SINGER Josh Kumra is looking to reconnect with his home audience when he returns for a gig at the end of the month.

The 23-year-old singer has taken time out since releasing his album, Good Things Come to Those Who Don’t Wait, at the beginning of 2013, which included a trip to perform in the United States.

It was in Nashville he had the inspiration for his upcoming show, Josh Kumra Presents, which will be staged in the Ballroom of the Kings Hotel on Saturday, December 27.

Josh has brought together some of his favourite acts including Swindon-based Colour The Atlas and Matthew Kilford, as well as Staniford, who hail from Brighton.

“When I went to Nashville I played some shows and they were like listening room-type shows where people go there and are quiet throughout the evening and it is all about the audience connecting with the musician,” said the former Headlands pupil, who is looking to release a second album next year.

“Instead of going out and not realising what you are listening to, it is a more appreciative type of audience, which I really want to do in Swindon.

“I think we’ve got loads of great musicians, but every musician is in the same kind of way, where nothing really feels like a monthly night, where it is just face to face and intimate.

“That is what I want to build it from. Some of the bands in Swindon deserve to be heard because they are brilliant.

“Bands like Colour the Atlas are really good and I can see them doing really big things.

“I don’t think I am giving them a platform but I think I am adding to it and hopefully this gig will do the same for all of us.

“I want to retouch and reconnect back with Swindon and we’re all planning on doing big things next year.

“I think every band is on par.

“It is not one of those things where I’m supporting them or they are supporting me.”

Tickets for the evening are £8 and are available from the reception of The Kings Hotel.

Doors open at 7.30pm for the over-18 event.
