THE Commonweal School has been successful in a bid to win singer Jamie Cullum’s piano.

The Old Town school entered the competition to win the piano and beat off competition from 150 entries nationally.

More than 16,5000 unique votes were registered, and the school came out top.

To win the piano, the school put together a song entitled Come on Jamie and recorded an accompanying video with staff and pupils involved.

Josie Williams, community arts development officer at Commonweal, said: “We are so excited at winning Jamie’s piano.

“I can’t think of a better Christmas present for Commonweal and the wider community.

"It would be fab if Jamie could come and do a concert for us as we need to raise funds to put in a tiered seating system into our school hall and turn it into the Commonweal Community Theatre.

“Thank you to everyone who voted for us and here is wishing all a very Happy Christmas.”

A spokesperson for Jamie said: “Thank you to everyone who entered the competition to win Jamie's Yamaha Grand Piano.

“Sadly we only have one piano to give away.

"More than 16,500 unique votes have been registered and we are pleased to announce that Jamie’s Yamaha Grand Piano now has a new home.”
