A DEVOTED girl who has cared for her beloved grandmother ever since she could walk was rewarded tenfold for her kindness – with an iPad Mini no less.

At just 10-years-old, Jada Mensah is Brenda Carter’s most dedicated helper and tackles each task, whether it be making a cup of tea or giving a hand around the house, with an eagerness very few ordinary children would muster.

Unable to give Jada the Christmas present she had so wished for –an iPad Mini – Brenda contacted the Adver.

On Tuesday, Jada was surprised by the John Lewis team who hand-delivered the coveted tablet as part of the Christmas Wish.

The King William Street Primary School pupil was left fighting back tears as she unwrapped her present.

“I’m on the verge of tears,” she said.

“I don’t usually like surprises; they make me feel a bit sick. She didn’t mention anything about it. She is a good liar. When I come to see her I try to help her. It just feels like I’m helping someone I love.

“I’m really happy but I’m a bit shocked. I wasn’t expecting it. I’ve wanted an iPad ever since I was eight.”

John Lewis also presented Jada with two stuffed penguins, the heroes of the store’s Christmas advert and her grandmother with a special goody bag.

The gifts unwrapped, the 10-year-old’s first instinct was to turn to her grandmother and tell her she loved her.

Jada could not have been a more deserving Christmas Wish winner, according to Brenda.

“I have suffered chronic pain for over 30 years,” said the 76-year-old, of Park North.

“I have type 2 diabetes, angina, fibromyalgia and am finding it difficult to do basic chores like ironing and cleaning and I am so grateful to my granddaughter.

“Most weekends she stays with me overnight. She has a wonderful caring nature and is a delight to behold. Jada bounces in with a happy, cheerful laugh ready to make me a cup of tea or wash up.

"Even when she was a tiny little thing, two years old, she would get down on her knees to rub my legs when they were very bad.

"Jada’s dream wish for Christmas was a computer of her own. Her friends all have one. Her mother cannot afford one and as I live on my pension only I couldn’t afford it either.”

John Lewis at Home manager, Kate Connock, said: “I’m delighted to be supporting the Adver and recognise people who take really good care of someone else.

"Jada puts her nana before herself. We thought we would give her the penguins as well. They are almost rarer than the iPad mini. They are like gold dust so we thought it would be great for her.”
