DOZENS of Swindon families donned Santa suits and reindeer antlers for a festive bike ride around Lydiard Park at the weekend.

The event, organised by national charity Sustrans, saw almost 50 Santas, reindeer and elves cycle around the park, with all ages and abilities taking part in the day, showing that there is no age limit to having fun on a bike.

The day of family fun included a ‘bling your bike’ competition to see who could create the most festive bicycle, with the help of copious amounts of tinsel.

Attendees got creative, and bicycles were seen adorned with Christmas lights, trees and even penguins.

The Santas, reindeer and elves followed a three-mile course around the park in search of ‘treasure’, stopping off at regular points to answer Christmas-themed questions and looking out for hidden chocolates and slap bands.

At the end they were rewarded with a warming hot drink, mince pie and chocolate log to finish off the festivities.

Amy Martin, Smarter Choices Co-ordinator for the south west said: “Everyone really got into the spirit of things.

“We had all age ranges, from toddlers in bike trailers, to gran and granddads, all donning outfits, hats and tinsel.

“It was a great demonstration that cycling can be enjoyed by anyone, and at any time of the year.”
