A MONTHLY quiz has raised more than £1,600 for good causes this year – and competitors celebrated at December’s event with festive fancy dress as they tackled their teasers.

The quiz is held at The Saracens Head, in Highworth, on the last Sunday of the month, although this month organisers had to change things around, with the quiz running on Sunday, December 14.

The final fundraiser of the year took more than £300, adding to donations that have gone to the likes of Swindon SANDS, Highworth Luncheon Club, the Tubular Sclerosis Society and Prospect Hospice.

Prospect was chosen as the beneficiary of the final quiz of the year as three patrons of the Saracens Head and the quizzes have died over the past few months, all of whom were supported by the hospice.

Jan Davidson, one of the quiz organisers, said: “The pre-Christmas quiz is always the biggest fund raiser of the year, and this was no exception, raising around £325 which will be passed to the Prospect Hospice.

“The regular support of Saracens Head is greatly appreciated and, on the final quiz of the year, we try to take some of the pressure off the staff by encouraging other local businesses to support the event.

“This year we were fortunate to have the support of Highworth’s recently opened ZaraZara Pan-Asian restaurant, providing huge amounts of tasty Asian snacks free of charge.

“We are grateful for their assistance.”

The quizzes are open to teams of four, with an entry fee of £10 per team. For more information contact The Saracens Head on 01793 762284.
