POLICE were yesterday searching a fresh location in the hunt for items belonging to murder victim Sian O’Callaghan.

Officers from Wiltshire Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team were searching a field between the villages of Bourton and Bishopstone, six miles east of Swindon.

The fresh operation came just weeks after officers removed an unknown item from a nearby field after a two-day search.

However, officers were unable to link the recovered item to the 22-year-old.

Sian’s body was discovered in Uffington, Oxfordshire, in March 2011, days after she was last seen leaving a nightclub in Old Town.

In October 2012, taxi driver Christopher Halliwell admitted killing Sian and is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence.

Detectives have been working on the theory that Sian was killed at Ramsbury, about 10 miles south of where her body was found, as they hunt for personal items belonging to Sian which were never recovered, including her mobile phone, handbag and keys.

The field currently being searched is equidistant between Swindon and Uffington.

Yesterday, a Wiltshire Police spokesman, said: “Officers have received information that Sian’s property may be in this area.

“Previous searches in this area have not found any of the outstanding property at this stage.

“This is not related to the investigation into the murder of Becky Godden. We are not prepared to discuss this further.”

The body of Becky Godden was found in a field in Eastleach, Gloucestershire, in a parallel investigation with the Sian case.

Halliwell confessed to her murder but this was ruled inadmissable after police guidelines were breached and Halliwell was not cautioned.

The knife used to murder Sian has also never been found by police.

During the previous search, Detective Chief Inspector Sean Memory, from the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “We continue to be in close contact with Sian’s family and they have always wanted to know what happened to her belongings.

“Due to new information we have been searching in this area for the remaining items that are missing and, should we find them, we shall be returning them to the family as soon as possible.”
