AN ELDERLY man has died in hospital after suffering serious injuries in a rural road collision earlier this month.

On the evening of Monday, December 8, the 66-year-old from Chippenham had been driving along Skew Bridge in Royal Wootton Bassett when he collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction.

He was rushed to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with life threatening injuries but sadly passed away on Wednesday of this week.

The occupant of the other vehicle escaped with only minor injuries, and police are now looking to gather more information about the crash.

PC Scott Hill of the collision investigation team said: "At around 7.28pm on Monday 8 December, on the A3102 at Skew Bridge, a red Citroen AX, travelling towards Royal Wootton Bassett, collided with a grey Peugot 207 travelling towards Lyneham.

"The driver and sole occupant of the Citroen, a 66-year-old man from the Chippenham area, was conveyed to Southmead Hospital with life threatening injuries, and died in the intensive care unit on Wednesday 17 December.

"The driver and sole occupant of the Peugot, a 52-year-old man from the Lyneham area, sustained minor injuries in the collision.

"We are appealing for any witnesses to the collision who have not already come forward or anyone who saw either of the vehicles driving prior to the collision, to contact PC Prince on non-emergency number 101, extension 72031066, or PS Barrie Card on extension 7203112."
