CAMPAIGNING mother Karen Edwards fears attempts are being made to sabotage a petition which is due to be presented at Downing Street next week.

The mother of murdered Becky Godden-Edwards has been campagning for reform of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act guidelines since a conviction could not be brought against her daughter’s killer.

Becky disappeared in 2002 and her body was not found until 2011 when police were led to her remains in a field in Eastleach, Gloucestershire.

Taxi-driver Christopher Halliwell confessed to her murder but it was ruled inadmissible after a court found detective Steve Fulcher had breached PACE guidelines in failing to caution his suspect.

Karen has now had an official invitation to the Prime Minister’s offices on Wednesday when she will present the petition.

But she has found copies of it have been stolen from various businesses.

It is thought a small group of people are claiming to be part of the campaign in order to claim the packs.

“It seems somone is trying to sabotage the campaign,” said Karen. “The last one we found was a Purton chip shop where someone with blonde hair had taken their pack away.

“At another place in Cricklade a grey-haired man had picked it up. There have been some in Cirencester recently which had gone missing and I have been to both Asdas after people said they had delivered packs there but they have also been taken.”

Karen said just under half of the packs handed out are now unaccounted for, although many of those will simply have been lost.

“While we have given out packs totalling 70,000 signatures we have got 37,000 back so far,” she said.

“Some people have of course mislaid them, but it is the businesses where a small group of people seem to be taking them from.

“The pen is mightier than the sword and that is why people have been signing this petition.

“I am just so angry that somebody wants to sabotage it.

“These packs belong to me, so it is really theft from me and theft from the all people who have signed it.

“This has been going on for months, and at first I thought perhaps people had just mislaid them so we gave them new packs.

“Now we are asking people to send us their personal details directly to my personal email if they still want to sign so we can add them to the petition.

“If anyone can give us information regarding the packs stolen from numerous businesses I would ask them to let me know.

“I have told the police but because we do not have any evidence they would not be able to act.

“I want to thank everyone for their support.

The support from the huge majority of people has been overwhelming.”
