A TOP cancer nurse is in line to scoop a prestigious prize at the Wiltshire Life Awards.

Lyndel Moore, 46, Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s lead cancer nurse, has been nominated in the Carer of the Year category.

She will find out whether she has been successful at a ceremony taking place at The Corn Exchange, in Devizes, on Friday, January 23.

Lyndel, who lives in Marlborough, will attend the bash with husband Neil. The couple’s children Alice, 13, and Emma, 11, will cheer her on back home.

Lyndel, based at Great Western Hospital, said: “I was quite surprised to find out that I was nominated.

"One of my colleagues here nominated me but I have to say it is a reflection of the job that our team are doing here and not just one individual.

"I think it is a fine recognition of the cancer services that we provide here and the constant improvements that we’re always looking to make.”

Lyndel, who has been with the trust for 15 years, leads the nursing care across all cancer services the organisation oversees, providing healthcare at GWH as well as hospitals and communities across Wiltshire.

The trust’s partnership with cancer charity Hope for Tomorrow is thanks to Lyndel, who worked with the group to set up sophisticated mobile chemotherapy units in locations around Wiltshire, helping to bring treatment much closer to home for many people.

She said: “I’m really looking forward to the ceremony and it will be great to be there with my husband and some of my colleagues, as this nomination really is about the work that we’re all doing.”

After being awarded a travel scholarship from the European Oncology Nursing Society, Lyndel visited the US last year to study cancer survivorship programmes and bring the latest best practice back to the region.

She visited John Hopkins Hospital, in Baltimore, and the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, in New York, later sharing her findings at the society’s annual conference in Turkey.
