POTENTIAL firefighters in Royal Wootton Bassett are being invited to a series of events this month as the fire service looks to attract new recruits.
Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service needs more people to provide on-call fire cover within the town and its surrounding villages.
The events are being held at the fire station in Station Road from 7-9pm on Wednesdays, January 21 and 28, and are aimed at anyone interested in becoming an on-call firefighter.
The fire station will also open its doors from 10am-3pm on Saturday, January 24, for families to see the appliances, chat with the crew and watch demonstrations.
Station manager Paul Jarmey said: “To be on-call, you need to be able to respond to the fire station in around five minutes once your pager goes off, and this can be from home or work.
“On-call firefighters receive the same training and development as wholetime colleagues, and employers can benefit from those skills, which include first aid, manual handling and a greater understanding of health and safety in the workplace. The pay varies depending on how much cover you give.”
