PARENTS will get a chance tgo discuss a school’s poor Ofsted report at a meeting next week.

Ruskin Junior School in Wordsworth Drive, has been put into special measures following an inspection by the education watchdog last November.

Parents are now concerned they weren’t inform ed by the school about the report.

Schools have a week to share results of any Ofsted report with parents before the details are made public.

However, parents say they did not receive notification of the report results – rating it “inadequate – published on Monday.

The school itself says text messages, emails and letters were sent out.

This matter is likely to be discussed at a meeting called by the school on Tuesday at 6pm.

Sharon Oaten, whose 11-year-old daughter, Abbie, attends the school, said she only found out when her friend mentioned the report had been made public.

She said: “My friend asked me last Friday if I had seen the report. When I asked her what report, she told me just how bad it was.

“But I haven’t seen any letters and not everybody receives text messages. They never told us about it.

“I have to say, the headteacher, Sarah Prevost, is very good. She has been there for a very long time and she clearly just hasn’t had enough time [after being promoted to the headship] to make any of the improvements.

“But Ruskin used to be a very good school and I don’t know how they could have got this bad in just a couple of years.

“The problem is that they do not push those children hard enough; they do not give them challenging enough work. I’ve been saying that for a long time.”

A spokesman for the school said all parents had been informed that the report had been published as soon as they were able to, which was a week before the results were publicised in the Adver on Tuesday.

The spokesman said: “All parents and carers were made aware of the Ofsted inspection and the school’s letter giving their response to it, on January 6, by text message from the school.

“This included a direct link to the letter and report, which are both on the school’s website. The two parents who don’t prefer to be communicated with by text message were sent the information by post.

“Details of a meeting to discuss the report was also included in the school’s weekly newsletter, which goes to parents by email and which is also available to read in the school reception area.”
