Thousands of commuters suffered Monday morning travel misery because of fresh problems on the railways.

A broken down train caused delays of up to 30 minutes to First Great Western trains between Gloucester and Swindon.

And there were delays because of a broken down train between Paddington and Hayes and Harlington, which has now ended.

First Great Western tweeted an apology for the delays caused.

South West Trains services to and from London Waterloo were disrupted because of a signalling problem outside the station - one of the busiest in the country. Services were cancelled or delayed because four platforms were out of use.

A signalling problem between Hackney Downs and London Liverpool Street also led to platforms out of use at London Liverpool Street.

And a problem with lineside equipment at Exeter St Davids led to delays of up to 30 minutes to trains through the station.
