If the most important thing about lunch is for it to arrive speedily and to be tasty, then Wagamama fits the bill.

The new branch in the revamped food hall at the outlet village was heaving when I popped in for a quick stop mid-shop with my daughter on a Sunday.

But we were instantly ushered to one of the bench-style tables that ensure a maximum number of people can be seated in as small a space as possible and lingering is unlikely.

Wagamama is not a place to go for a long lunch and a gossip, but there is plenty of choice of the Japanese inspired food. The bit that took me the longest was wading through the menu and trying to work out what the dishes consisted of.

In the end, I gave up and let my daughter pick for me. The ever-busy chefs in the open kitchen quickly created our shared starters of duck gyoza (duck dumplings with hoi sin sauce) and, as soon as the empty plate was whisked away, they were replaced with the main courses of yaki soba (noodles with shrimps and vegetables) and chicken and prawn pad thai.

The meal was over in about 20 minutes, which was fine as we wanted to get on with the shopping, but made the £24 bill seem expensive.
