MISS Wiltshire 2014 will trade photo shoots for swap negotiations at a charity event she has arranged for the weekend.

Nicole Cox is encouraging recycling by organising a swap shop on Saturday.

New College student Nicole, 18, has organised the event in association with Swindon Freegle, a recycling group, which will take place at Coleview Community Centre in Towcester Road.

The swap shop, which will run between noon and 2pm, encourages people to bring along any unwanted clothes and goods and exchange them with others.

The aim of the day is to stop useful items being sent to landfill sites and harming the environment.

Among the items Nicole is keen to see at the event are clean clothes, DVDs, CDs and books.

Nicole said she even sported a swap shop outfit when she won her title in April last year.

“We hope to have lots of people there exchanging their unwanted things for others that they want,” she said.

“There were a couple of reasons why I wanted to organise the event. Firstly, my dad has been involved with Swindon Freegle for a few years and also my outfit at last year’s ceremony was made completely of swap shop items.”

The event is also supporting other good causes including Swindon Foodbank, the Rucksack Project and The Christie NHS Foundation Trust cancer charity.

Nicole said: “If anyone wants to donate some cans to the foodbank or a bag to the Rucksack Project or some money to the cancer charity that would be great.”

Mayor Teresa Page is expected to attend to show her support to the swap shop.

Nicole added: “It has been quite stressful putting all this together, as this the first proper event that I have done by myself, but I’m trying to make it a great one which everyone will remember, while, most importantly, supporting a lot of worthy causes.”
