SWINDON Arts Centre confirmed this morning that Michael McIntyre, whose performance last night was cancelled due to illness, will perform there on Monday, March 2.
Theatre director Derek Aldridge tweeted to say the comedian was feeling unwell on Wednesday evening and was unable to honour last night's sold-out date.
Mr Aldridge confirmed the new date this morning, for which last night's £23 tickets will be valid.
All those who have tickets are being contacted by the the arts centre in Devizes Road. Refunds will be available to those who cannot attend on March 2.
Responding to several disappointed tweets he received, Mr Aldridge offered his apologies and said the television star was just as disappointed to pull out.
Sally Herron was one of those who failed to hide her concerns.
In two tweets she said: “@DerekWyvern totally annoyed at the news of Michael cancelling. Second time I have booked tickets and made arrangements (Cardinal Burns) !!!
“@McInTweet had tickets for tonight in Swindon (first night out in years carefully planned and sitter booked) You've Cancelled!”
On the other hand, Chris Hunter tweeted: “Get well soon @McInTweet. See you when you’re next in Swindon. @WyvernTheatre.”
Dave Jell, deputy technical manager at Swindon Wyvern Theatre, said: “@McInTweet sorry to hear you're ill – get better soon and we'll see you when you are!”
A short statement on the arts centre’s website said: “Michael McIntyre is unwell and unable to perform this evening, Thursday, January 22, at Swindon Arts Centre.
“We will be in touch with everyone that has booked tickets as soon as possible.”
The 38-year-old stand-up was returning to the Devizes Road venue for the second time in two years, to try out new material for 2015 tour Happy & Glorious.
He was hoping to gauge the Swindon crowd’s reaction to some new gags ahead of the arena tour.
In 2013 there were queues stretching outside the theatre along the street with fans attempting to get their hands on tickets.
The 2015 tour starts in Plymouth on August 8.
