CARING Swindonians are being urged to volunteer to take part in collections to help improve the nation’s health.

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) and Diabetes UK are asking volunteers to raise money as part of February’s National Heart Month.

The collections on February 13 and 14 and will mark a partnership between Tesco, Diabetes UK and the BHF.

Collections will take place at more than 550 stores across the UK, including in Swindon, with money raised aimed at a campaign aiming to encourage millions of people to reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease and Type 2 diabetes by leading a healthier lifestyle.

The three-year partnership aims to raise millions of pounds and support will help to save lives by helping millions eat better and get active, reducing the risk of serious ill-health in the future, as well as helping to fund the vital work of BHF and Diabetes UK across the UK.

Jenna Hall, programme director of the National Charity Partnership, said: “Cardiovascular disease and Type 2 diabetes are both serious conditions that can shorten lives.

“But it doesn’t have to be this way.

“Through this partnership, we aim to help millions of people reduce their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. And by joining us at the Swindon store you can play a part in helping people live longer, healthier lives.”
