A FUNDRAISING day saw staff members from Nationwide Building Society raised more than £1,000 to help sick children.

The team visited the Great Western Hospital yesterday afternoon to hand over the cheque, for £1,200, to the head of fundraising, Jen Green, of Brighter Futures.

Brighter Futures is the charitable arm of the GWH NHS Foundation Trust, and raises money to fund treatments not usually available on the NHS.

The team from Nationwide raised the money by holding a fundraising day and the money they raised will go towards supporting children who have to receive treatment at the hospital.

Erika Farrell, from Nationwide, who helped to organise the fundraiser, said staff were keen to help such a worthwhile cause.

“We wanted to do something special for children who were unwell over the Christmas period and generally going to Swindon’s hospital for treatment, often for serious illnesses,” she said.

“So in December we arranged a huge jumble sale, a raffle ticket for Name The Teddy Bear and an auction for a cuddly snowman.

“It was great to have so much support from across Nationwide and be able to raise over £1,000 for such an important cause.”
