THE driver accused of killing a Swindon man in a road crash at the weekend has appeared in court.

Simon Shore, of Highworth, died after a smash on the A34 in Hampshire on Saturday.

Piotr Janowski, 48, the Polish driver of the HGV which collided with the Vauxhall Zafira Mr Shore was travelling in, appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates Court yesterday.

He is charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Janowski was remanded in custody after a brief appearance and will appear again on February 18, at Winchester Crown Court.

Mr Shore, 53, of Windrush, in Highworth, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which took place shortly after 5.45pm.

Police said the collision occurred on the northbound carriageway of the A34, near the Tufton crossroads.

Hampshire Coroner’s office confirmed a post-mortem examination would take place on the body of Mr Shore today, with an inquest being opened afterwards.

The driver of the car carrying Mr Shore, a 40-year-old man, sustained minor injuries.

Two rear seat passengers, a 13-year-old girl and 38-year-old man, also sustained minor injuries in the incident.

The northbound carriageway of the busy road was closed until 1.45am on Sunday while crash investigation officers carried out an assessment of the site.

Sergeant Adrienne Jerram, of the serious collision investigation unit, said officers were keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the crash, or the events before it.

“I would appeal to anyone who was travelling northbound or southbound on Saturday evening who may have witnessed the incident, or saw either vehicle before the collision to contact us as soon as possible,” he said.

A witness appeal has been launched by Hampshire Police and anyone with information is asked to call 101.
