THERE will be fewer scarves flowing out from Holy Cross Catholic Primary School this term after a diligent winter depleted the school’s stocks of wool.

The active after school knitting club – which next meets on Wednesday after school in Upham Road – regularly clicks away to create various items which are then sold to help raise money for local charities.

In the past these have included scarves, hats, mice and blankets to help support others in need.

Beverly Briggs, business manager at the school, who leads the knitting club said: “Holy Cross Primary School runs an after school knitting club, during which the children make items to raise funds for charities. This has included knitting hats for Innocent smoothie bottles to raise funds for Age Concern, knitting mice for the Mile of Mice challenge for the Alzheimer’s Organisation and blanket squares for orphaned children in Africa.

“Knitting not only improves the children’s dexterity but research has also showed that it improves numeracy skills. The club’s stock of wool has become depleted so, if anyone has any double knit yarn that they no longer need, please give us a ring.”

Anyone with spare wool to donate can call the school on 01793 527679.
