A WASTE management company has turned trash to cash with a charitable donation which will see rugby players enjoying hot showers in future.

The Hills Group gave a £15,000 grant for a new electrical heating and hot water system at Royal Wootton Bassett Rugby Club.

With increased use of the facilities at the Ballard’s Ash Sports Ground, club officials realised the heating and water systems were not up to scratch, and needed £65,000 to upgrade them.

Club fundraising and money from SportEngland was topped up by Hills with a donation under the Landfill Communities Fund in partnership with Community First, the Rural Community Council for Wiltshire.

Chris Elias, chairman of the rugby club, said: “We are delighted with the support received from Hills and Community First in respect of this project.

“The new system, which has been installed with the full support of SportEngland, will ensure that our members and all users of Ballard’s Ash Sports Ground will no longer have to endure cold showers after their matches.

“It’s been heartwarming, in more ways than one.”
