THE British Heart Foundation (BHF) is urging people to get ‘reddy’ tomorrow, for a good cause.

Friday is Wear It. Beat It. day across the country, with the charity hoping people will wear red in support of Heart Month, which runs throughout February.

One in four of the UK population are lost to heart and circulatory disease each year, with almost 15,600 deaths in the South West each year, and the fundraiser is aimed at helping the BHF fight for every heartbeat.

Last year, the South West was part of raising a grand total of more than £1 million during the BHF’s red fundraiser in February to support the BHF’s life-saving research.

And this year, the group hopes to raise even more money.

Your Swindon Advertiser is among those already pledging to take part, with staff paying £1 to wear a red garmet on the day, as well as a penny from each sale of the newspaper on Friday also being donated to the cause.

Louise Parkes, fundraising director at the BHF, said: “We are extremely grateful to the Swindon Advertiser for committing to donate a penny from every issue sold on February 6 to the BHF as part of Wear It. Beat It.

“Wear it. Beat it. is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to come together to fight against heart and circulatory disease.

“The money raised by the Swindon Advertiser will help us continue our life-saving research. Every pound raised will help make a massive difference.”

Also taking part are youngsters at Moredon and Rodbourne primary schools, with pupils donning red for the day.
