The Met Office has renewed its yellow warning of snow and ice for parts of Wiltshire today.

In the warning, valid until 10am tomorrow for Gloucestershire, Swindon and Wiltshire, it says: "A wintry mix of rain, sleet and snow showers are expected through the rest of Thursday leading to icy stretches on untreated surfaces on Thursday night into Friday morning.

"The showers will gradually become lighter and restricted to the far southeast of England overnight.

"However, some heavier showers of sleet and snow are likely to affect parts of the southeast on Thursday afternoon and early evening, particularly Kent and Sussex.

"Snow accumulations of 1-3cm are possible in places. Due to the showery nature of the flow many places will probably miss the snow.

"The public should be aware of the potential for disruption to travel."

The chief forecaster says: "An increasingly cold northeasterly flow will affect eastern and central England. Troughs arriving from the east will bring a wintry mix of showers to many parts on Thursday with rain and sleet around coasts, readily turning to snow inland.

"The showers should become largely confined to the southeast later on Thursday, by which time they will be mainly composed of sleet and snow, where they may continue into Friday morning.

"With temperatures expected to fall below freezing widely, icy stretches are likely to form on untreated surfaces."
