CHARITIES and voluntary organisations are being urged to submit last-minute applications for help from a Swindon fund-raising group.

The deadline for groups to put themselves forward as potential beneficiaries of Swindon Cares is midnight tonight.

All types of organisations have benefited from the work of Swindon Cares since it was formed in 2003.

And a spokesman urged the townspeople to take advantage before it is too late.

He said: “We aim to engage all areas of Swindon’s community schools, businesses, groups and individuals to support people in our town.

“Swindon Cares started in 2003 and since that time we have raised more than £215,000 to help local charities and voluntary organisations.

“We are looking again for possibly two or three non-profit organisations or charities to support for a two-year period through 2015 and 2016.

“We intend to try to focus our interest on those working with children and young people up to the age of 26.”

Among the last groups to benefit from the efforts of Swindon Cares was the Swindon Carers Centre.

The group, based in Wood Street, received more than £14,000.

For the latest appeal, the spokesman said it would be preferred if groups who had already received the backing of Swindon Cares or their partners did not reapply.

That is because the emphasis is being put on helping new initiatives each year.

“Application forms can be obtained from Jane Fox by email at jane.fox@zct.org.uk and we would encourage you to apply,” the spokesman added.

Applications will be reviewed in the week commencing February 9, with shortlists then being drawn up.

The next step will see potential beneficiaries being interviewed on Tuesday February 24.

A final decision will then be made on who will be the partner organisations.
