A TOWN centre cafe is hoping to offer a feast of favours after reading of a woman’s random acts of kindness in the Adver.

After reading of the exploits of Eldene woman Maureen Iles, who randomly puts up Post-It notes containing goodwill messages around the town, staff at Muffin Break in the Brunel Centre decided to spread a little cheer.

They discovered one of 69-year-old Maureen’s notes, which bore the phrase, ‘give without remembering and receive without forgetting’.

The note struck a chord with Raj Hasib, who runs Muffin Break, prompting his own pledge to carry out good deeds.

Raj said: “It feels quite special that someone wants to get these messages out there.

“It really touched me, especially when I found out it was one of our regular customers.

“It made me think about how much poverty there is in the world and how people take things for granted.

“We hope our campaign will make people happy as I just want to give something back.

“Unfortunately, I cannot do it when we are busy as it might cause issues if I just pick someone out of the queue.

“But I was thinking that, when we are quiet, then I’ll pick a customer at random to have their order for free.”

Retired legal secretary Maureen is proud that Muffin Break has followed her example and thinks that it will help create a feel-good factor in the community.

“It’s great news and it really does do some good,” she said.

“I think it’s a really good idea and I’m still doing it (posting the notes).”

And Raj said that he’s looking forward to seeing the response to the campaign.

He said: “It will be great to see people’s reactions as I really just want to give something back.

“Hopefully this will inspire others to carry out good deeds and it would be great to get other businesses on board doing initiatives such as this.”
