CHILDREN at a nursery in Broome have been very busy bees indeed after being praised for being a good provision at their last Ofsted inspection.

The Busy Bees Day Nursery, at Swindon Broome, secured the happy accolade after an inspection last month and came after staff were told they ‘needed to improve’ in 2009.

Nursery manager Michelle Harris, who has been at Busy Bees for nearly 10 years, said she was delighted the nursery’s hard work and dedication has been recognised.

She said: “We all leapt for joy when Ofsted arrived as we were eager to show all that we have achieved since our last inspection.

“The staff team here at Busy Bees have shown pride and enthusiasm in their work, which has been paramount in continuing our growth and ultimately achieving our new grading of good.

“The result was a testimony to their hard work and the support we have received from our parents.

“Our long-standing staff team are passionate about delivering quality care to the children in our nursery, and we are always exploring ways to ensure their physical and emotional needs are met.

“We have a range of childcare initiatives and extracurricular activities in place, as well as a large garden and exciting forest den area, which we encourage the children to explore at every opportunity.

“We are over the moon with the result, and will continue to work towards an Outstanding grade. We have already started implementing the recommendations made by Ofsted, exploring resources and activities that reinforce the service we provide to the children in our care.”

Inspectors particularly praised staff’s teaching and children’s progress, and also said that children had good access to a well-resourced outdoor space, But they also said more needed to be done to retain children’s attention and interest.

In the report, inspectors said: “The success of the good relationships between all children and the staff means children know their ‘special person’ well.

“Ready access to fresh air and physical exercise is a real strength of the nursery.”
