ASPIRING fashion designer Megan Kamber is looking good – and helping others do the same – in her bid to raise a bumper sum for charity.

The 11-year-old has taken up the Tenner Challenge to raise as much cash for charity as she can, from a starting budget of just £10.

And to help her in her quest Megan, of Eastcott Road, Old Town, is organising a fashion show with her £10, at Commonweal School in The Mall, on Tuesday, March 17, from 7pm.

The young entrepreneur is no stranger to dressmaking as her mum works in textiles and gave her daughter her own sewing machine when she was just eight years old.

“I love it,’’ said Megan, “I make my own dresses, curtains, bedspreads everything. I am in it to win it so I thought I would do something I love.’’ She is up against some of her fellow pupils at the Old Town school and the four students raising the most money will go through to the Tenner national competition.

“If I get through I am going to ask the Wyvern Theatre to host my fashion show for the national competition,’’ she said.

Tenner is a nationwide competition organised to find the next generation of budding entrepreneurs. Megan was given £10 on Monday and has just four weeks to complete her project.

Last year, more than 29,000 young people registered to take part.

All the clothes for the fashion show have either been made by Megan, remodelled or customised to her own designs.

“I had some clothes donated and found lace and fabrics from charity shops to make a black lace dress, red skirts, white tops and cut off jeans,’’ she said.

The young designer has organised the show around different cultures of the world with fashions from India, Spain, America and England with a sporty theme to interest the boys who are helping out.

She held auditions for models to take to the catwalk, and has some special guests to entertain including her sister Annabelle who will be performing with drummer Jay Roberts, her cousin Mia Harvey, Yasmin and Saffron Wood, and her cousin Lola who will be performing a dance with Megan.

Sixth formers and Year Nines will be modelling the clothes and Megan herself will be playing the piano as part of the Spanish theme. She is taking her Grade one exam only a few days after the show.

Many of Megan’s family are coming to the show to support her, some from different areas of the UK, and she is doing her best to encourage everyone to come along and enjoy the show, which is raising funds for the Sue Ryder Charity.

Tickets are £4 for adults, £2.50 for children and £3 for seniors.

They are available from the school on 01793 612727.
