ARTWORK from Swindon’s impressive modern art collection is on tour across the south west.

Pictures from the Modern Art in Britain project are being loaned to the centres as part of a collaboration called the Frameworks partnership, between Swindon Museum and Art Gallery, the Holburne in Bath, Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, the Victoria Art Gallery, in Bath, and The Wilson, in Cheltenham.

The largest exhibition of Swindon pictures is at the Holburne in Bath, where 32 will form a single exhibition, entitled Home and the World. They have been selected from the Swindon collection by Turner Prize-nominated artist Dexter Dalwood and include some of Swindon’s most celebrated works, by artists such as Gwen John, Lucien Freud and Graham Sutherland.

Helen Miah, Swindon Council’s commissioner for leisure and culture, said: “It’s very exciting to be able to showcase our works to audiences elsewhere, and a testament to the size and quality of the collection that we can have at the same time a high-quality exhibition of our own, Present Tense, here in Swindon.

“We have a collection of national significance and, like all galleries, a large proportion of our works are often in storage because there is only so much we can display at any one time. Loaning them helps solve this problem.”
