A SCHOOL football team is stepping onto the pitch in a new kit thanks to the sponsorship of a Swindon supermarket.

Tesco, in Ocotal Way, has agreed to sponsor the new Holy Cross Primary School’s female football team. Deputy headteacher, Robin Christian, who coaches the squad, said the smart kit mirrored the team’s performances, with the side set to take part in the regional finals.

“We have maintained a rich tradition of achieving local and county success in girls’ football,” he said.

“This year we possess an exciting blend of older and younger girls in the team, each of which contribute something slightly different.

“Determination and teamwork have always been important facets in securing success and these qualities filter down to other aspects of school life too.

“I wish to thank Tesco very much for supporting the girls through sponsorship of the kit, it is greatly appreciated.”

Tesco community champion Michelle Hobbs said: “Holy Cross Primary School is relocating to Queen’s Drive in September so they will be our close neighbours. Tesco is always keen to support the local community and we are pleased to have forged a strong link with Holy Cross.

“We wish the girls the best of luck in the regional finals.”
