ALAN FLETCHER, 66, chairman of Swindon Guide Dogs, tells us about his life with food

Do you cook a lot yourself? What is your failsafe dish?

I don’t cook anymore as I am blind and my wife keeps me well away from the kitchen! Venison in a red wine sauce is my favourite dish.

Where do you like to eat out? How often?

The Crown Inn, Stratton, and The Weighbridge and Brewhouse and we like to eat out about once a week.

What do you always hope to find on a menu? For starter? Main course? Dessert?

Mushrooms in garlic, sirloin steak or venison, cheese and biscuits.

Which foods did you hate as a child? Do you eat them now?

Rice, semolina or tapioca pudding and rabbit and I still hate them.

What is your favourite drink? Alcoholic and non-alcoholic.

Champagne, Sancerre and a glass of lager (not all at once), and lemonade.

Marmite: yes or no?

No.

What is your guilty pleasure when it comes to food... something you know you shouldn’t eat, but do anyway?

Chips and chocolate.

You are on your own at home watching a film. What is your snack of choice?

Cheese and biscuits.

You’re eating a bacon sandwich... ketchup, brown sauce or nothing at all?

Ketchup or brown sauce, whatever I fancy at the time.
