A FOUR-night Easter Weekend music extravaganza is to be hosted by The Vic, in Old Town.

Violet McLaren and partner Darren Simons, hosts at the Victoria Road venue, aim to spotlight original music with a different genre represented each evening.

Darren said: “The idea is to be quite diverse and creative and put something for everybody in over the four days.

“It’s doing something a bit different in Swindon that I don’t think has been done before.

“It’s a celebration of Swindon promoters coming together rather than working against each other.”

Violet said: “It gives the bands a real platform to get well known or better known in Swindon.”

The first night – Thursday, April 2 – will be devoted to electronic and synth-pop bands, with the roster consisting of She Makes War, Forgery Lit and Coasters.

The following evening will see Backbeat Sound System, Dub the Earth, King Solomon Band and The Nomarks deliver a programme of dub reggae.

The Vic’s own alternative rock night is on Saturday, April 4, with sets from The Manic Shine, All Ears Avow, Vault of Eagles, Ghost of Machines, The Graphic and The Starkers.

Sunday will have more of a metal theme, with Skreamer, Antoinette, Belial and Ursus.

The Saturday and Sunday are also due to include afternoon sets, with details to be confirmed.

Tickets for shows start at £5, but an £18 all-inclusive ticket is also available.

They are on sale from The Vic, Holmes Music and the Central Library, and details are at thevic swindon.com/get/events.
