APPRENTICES who have been working hard all year to achieve their first qualifications in housing have received their certificates from the Mayor of Swindon.

Coun Teresa Page was on hand yesterday to present eight apprentices who have been working towards their level 1 Chartered Institute of Housing qualifications.

The youngsters in Swindon Council’s housing department, who have been on the programme run by Swindon College, were thrilled to receive their certificates.

Lynn Jarvie, the lead officer for tenant academy with the council, said: “They’ve been very good, they’ve been brilliant this year in fact.

“They’ve all worked really hard and they’re thrilled to receive their certificates.

“We try to encourage all of them to apply for permanent roles in the housing department and in fact five of them now have been offered permanent jobs.

“After they complete their level 1 they can go on to their level 2, and then others can get a City And Guilds qualification and move on to their HNC.”
