PRIMARY school pupils experienced a taste of India this week as they helped out in the kitchen at a town restaurant.
The Jewel in the Crown, in Victoria Road, welcomed 25 budding chefs from Chiseldon Primary School to find out more about Indian cuisine and learn how to bake bread.
Muzammil Ali, owner of the Jewel in the Crown, said it was important for children to learn about Indian cuisine, and some of them were trying it for the first time.
Mr Ali has been inviting schools in for more than 30 years and believes it is an excellent way for schoolchildren to learn more about Indian culture.
He said: “They’re learning about a new culture and they have really enjoyed the day; they are so talented at cooking already. I explained to them what spices go into our curries and what’s on the menu.
“They then went into the kitchen and the chefs showed them how we make a curry and the children learnt how to bake bread.”
