A MAJOR event aimed at enhancing the career prospects of young people in Swindon will be held at the end of next month.

Swindon JobFest 2015, which will be held at Steam Museum in Kemble Drive, on Thursday, April 30, will bring young people and employers together so they can each showcase what they have to offer.

The event will provide young people with the chance to meet and engage with employers within Swindon so they can find out about the career opportunities suitable to them, whether they are apprenticeships, internships, traineeships or full-time jobs.

JobFest will run from 2-7pm in the Great Hall at Steam and will feature seminars on how to set up your own business, apprenticeships and Q&A’s with industry professionals.

There will also be useful workshops on how to put together a CV as well as top tips on interview techniques.

A number of leading local employers have already signed up to the event including: PGL travel, Nationwide, BMW, Excalibur, Network Rail, TS Tech, British Army, SEQOL, Monahans, Apps Broker, Zurich, GWP Group, Steele Davis and many more.

Councillor Garry Perkins, Swindon Borough Council’s cabinet member for the economy, regeneration and skills, said: “This event is open to all young people in Swindon whether they are looking to get into a particular job sector, or they are at a crossroads in terms of deciding which career path to go down.

“We want to make that foray into the world of work less daunting and JobFest is an informal way of introducing young people to the types of employment in Swindon, while also demonstrating to companies in the town that there is a talented and committed young workforce out there looking for the right opportunities.

“I would like to thank all the companies that have signed up to the day and I would encourage any young future employees to make the most of what I’m sure will be a fantastic event.”

Kate Beasant, Nationwide’s resourcing partner for emerging talent, said: “We are delighted to support this event which will enable young people to explore the different career options available to them and find out how they can pursue the career they want.

“At Nationwide we have just increased the number of apprentice opportunities available and young people attending JobFest 2015 can find out all about them alongside general career advice from our Resourcing team and tips on how to get on the career ladder.”
