A PINK Floyd tribute act is raising money for a church which has put a brick in the wall of their fledgling career.

Swindon-based Bootleg Floyd will be playing at the Church of Holy Cross, in Chiseldon, at 7.30pm on Saturday, April 25.

The gig is being organised as a ‘thank you’, raising funds for the church’s committee, who let the group rehearse at the venue.

Gaz Keenan, 35, the band’s bassist, said: “We are really excited to be performing at such a lovely venue.

“It is a really beautiful building.

“I think with our sound and our lights it will be quite the show.”

He said the band had a strong link with Chiseldon and were happy to give something back.

“Our drummer lives in Chiseldon and arranged for us to rehearse each week at the church,” Gaz said.

“We thought it would be quite a nice thing to do this gig as a benefit for them as a way to show our gratitude for the church committee’s hospitality.”

Joining Gaz, who has worked for Honda for 13 years, on stage will be singer Andy Middleton, drummer Steve Carter, keyboard player Chris Fitzpatrick and guitarist Ian Stone.

They’ll be playing tracks from Floyd’s albums Animals and Dark Side of the Moon.

The show is a follow up to their debut gig, a fundraiser for Great Western Hospital, which was held at Riffs Bar, in Greatfield, last December.

Since that gig, Bootleg Floyd has enlisted a new backing singer, Lauren Webb, who is unable to play at Holy Cross.

But Gaz said the group would continue to build on its success with the show.

“I think it will be rather surreal looking out in a church at so many Floyd fans,” he added.

“Since our first show, things have gone really well and we have fine-tuned our set, been in the studio to record a demo and had talks with a few people who want to represent us.

“Things are going well and I think the next aim for us is to play at bigger venues.”

Tickets for the Holy Cross gig cost £8 in advance and £10 on the night.
