A SWINDON car dealership helped a national fundraising campaign hit top speed and achieve its £50,000 target.

The Pebley Beach dealership, in Paddington Drive, handed £1,000 to Alan Fletcher from the Swindon branch of Guide Dogs to add to the total.

Branch chairman Mr Fletcher said: "£1,000 isn't bad is it? Castrol have actually raised about £65,000 and Pebley Beach gave £1,000 towards it, which was fantastic."

The money will go towards paying for two guide dogs, named Jacob and Ella.

Mr Fletcher recently closed his 4Joy appeal, named in honour of his first guide dog, which raised £50,000 and helped train nine dogs.

The first £10,000 went towards the appeal’s first puppy, who was also named Joy and a black labrador in memory of Alan’s eight-and-a-half-year-old pet, and will pay for the pup’s training until she is a fully-fledged guide dog.

The final pup of the appeal will also be a black labrador called Joy, and the final £5,000 will be spent on her before the appeal is officially closed.
