THE nation was bewitched by the powers of a Harry Potter superfan from Swindon who appeared on a BBC documentary this week.

Tina Davies, 56, from Shaw, appeared on BBC3’s Tom Felton Meets the Superfans which saw the former super villain travel the world meeting his biggest fans – and try to understand Tina’s decade-long fandom of him.

Harry Potter’s arch-enemy Draco Malfoy first put a spell on Tina in 2004 when she saw the Chamber of Secrets being promoted while working in Asda.

A dozen meetings with the actor followed with Tina ingratiating herself with Tom’s friends, family and long-term girlfriend Jade during her ten years of support.

Tina, a self confessed “Slytherin” was “beyond chuffed” with the final result.

She said: “I was told that I was Tom’s inspiration behind the documentary, I suppose I feel honoured, I was thrilled to bits with it.

“I loved the documentary . At first I was gobsmacked because I did not expect it to be focused around me. I had no idea that I was going to be the storyline, I couldn’t believe it.”

The hour-long documentary featured a Harry Potter impersonator, a man who will queue for hours for the perfect celebrity “selfie” and a woman who said the wizarding world helped her beat depression.

Tina said: “There was something I could relate to with every fan, they all had their personal reasons for loving Potter. It makes you feel so good and that you have achieved something when you get the autograph that you want.”

Viewers heard how the platinum-haired superstar at first questioned why Tina had such a fascination with him with Tom saying: “She has followed my career for seven years, ultimately I am baffled as to why she wants to see me and what she wants from me.”

It was only after Tina waited four hours to give Tom a card when his dog died that his opinion of his number-one fan started to change.

After personally asking Tina to be in the show, Tom visited her at her Swindon home where she was interviewed among signed Harry Potter photos and memorabilia.

He also learnt why the films meant so much to her with Tina saying: “We never had a family. Following Harry Potter, watching you all grow up: it was just like seeing your own family grow up.

"In some respects, I got attached because you seemed like a big family."

Tina, who has been celebrity spotting for over ten years, plans to visit the National Film Awards next week where Tom is up for best actor for his role in historical period drama Belle.

And Tina’s feelings for Tom remain unchanged following the airing.

“I’m still a big fan of Tom’s - I don’t think it’s possible for me to become a bigger fan,” she said.
