A TEENAGER charged with attempted murder after a stabbing in Park North has been remanded in custody ahead of a possible trial in September.

No pleas were entered at a brief first hearing at Bristol Crown Court yesterday, and the 17-year-old accused was not granted bail while the courts work towards a trial date.

The teenager, from London, is charged with a near-fatal stabbing, which occurred on February 17 at around 10pm, in Park North.

A 21-year-old man, from the London area, suffered serious injuries and was hospitalised.

Two men were arrested following the incident, but were later eliminated from police enquiries.

The teenager appeared in court dressed in a grey sweatshirt and jogging bottoms and listened as a timetable was laid out for his trial.

Hannah Squire, prosecuting, told the court: "The matter has been listed after being sent from the magistrates court as an attempted murder charge. An indictment has not yet been prepared as it is at such an early stage.

"Had he been intending to plead guilty today then an indictment would have been prepared, but that is certainly not what has been indicated from the defence.

"The custody time limit expires on September 10, and in my very initial assessment of of the case, I would say that it will remain an attempted murder charge.

"I would say a time estimate at this stage of at least five days, going into a second week. There are a number of complicating factors at this point.

"There is to be no application for bail."

A plea and case management hearing was laid down for July 10, with a potential trial date anticipated for September."

Judge Neil Ford QC said: "If there are to be any offers of pleas of any sort, the sooner those are made the greater any credit for those pleas could be given by the court.

"This is an attempted murder case at the moment so we will try to work towards a trial date, which would fall to either myself or a High Court judge. It may be that a slot in early September is the next available.

"The case will now be adjourned for the plea and case management hearing on 10 July, and until then you will remain in custody."
