POLICE are investigating a series of burglaries at care homes in Swindon in the early hours of yesterday.

At about 2.05am, police were called to Rose Cottage Care Home in Haydon Wick following reports that a man had attempted to gain entry to the property, but left when disturbed.

The man is described as white, in his early 20s and clean shaven. He was wearing a grey hooded top and a black body warmer.

Between 2.45am and 3.55am, police received a report that a metal wall safe had been stolen from William Robins Court in Moredon Road.

The safe was later recovered in a nearby field by officers.

At 3.20am, the wardens office in Chilton Gardens Sheltered Housing in Wickdown Avenue, Moredon, was broken into and damage caused to the property. Nothing is believed to have been stolen.

And at 3.38am, officers were called to Maple Court, in The Street, Moredon, following a report that there had been a break-in.

A man described as mixed race, wearing grey trousers and a black hooded top was seen running from the property when he was disturbed by staff. Nothing is believed to have been stolen.

Enquiries are continuing and officers would like to hear from any member of the public with information regarding these incidents or anyone who has noticed any suspicious activity in the Moredon and Haydon Wick area.
