THE Swindon branch of the Green party is celebrating after their crowdfunding campaign reached its £1,000 goal, allowing both their candidates to stand in the general election.

A £500 deposit is required to secure a place in the election with the Green’s £1,000 goal raised in just two weeks – thanks to public support the support of the general public.

Poppy Hebden-Leeder, prospective parliamentary candidate for North Swindon, thanked everyone who donated to their cause.

“It is the people of Swindon who have made this happen, for which I am both delighted and humbled,” she said.

“We will never forget that this election is about them, not just the ruling one per cent who buy so much influence with their donations and lobbying.”

Her South Swindon counterpart Talis Kimberley-Fairbourn said: “As a very grassroots party, we don’t have the same rich donors who fund the other parties, so every little bit that people give will make a big difference to us. We’ll make every pound count.”

The party are now looking for support for their stretch target to allow them to fund additional publicity materials.

Supporters have until April 2 to donate to the crowdfunder campaign.

The Green Party will also hold an election fundraiser, called the Green Gig, on April 2 at Commercial Road’s Level 3 club from 7.30pm, featuring Astral Ponies, Colour the Atlas and Neil Mercer.
