KRIS BOYD is heading into the final year of his contract at Rangers - but he has no intention of knocking on manager Walter Smith's door looking for a new deal.

Instead, the striker intends to do his talking on the pitch by emulating last season's efforts and netting more than 30 goals.

Despite a disappointing lack of pre-season action, the striker hopes to get back in the manager's plans and open his goalscoring account for the new season.

That starts tomorrow with a Clydesdale Bank Premier League opener against Falkirk.

Boyd said: "I've got a year left, I've not spoken to anyone. It's not down to me. I just want to get myself back in the team.

"Hopefully I'll start tomorrow and get up and running scoring goals. Then whatever happens, happens.

"There is no better place than playing in front of 50,000 at Ibrox every week so I'll just get my head down and try to score goals."

Boyd looked set for the Ibrox exit in January when Rangers accepted a bid from Birmingham, but the move collapsed over personal terms.

He remained to play a major role in claiming a domestic double.

"It was a bit of an up-and-down period for me in January but I got through it and finished the season well," he said.

While Rangers have had a number of pre- season friendlies, Celtic have competitive action having disposed of Dinamo Moscow in Champions League qualifying.

However, Boyd said: "I think Celtic would rather be in our position in the Champions League group stages.

"Falkirk have had a European game as well but it makes no difference. We have played tough friendlies and have coped well so we look forward to tomorrow."
