THE Inbetweeners’ Lizzie Stables is poised to return to her native Wiltshire with her new play, Unearthed.

Best known as the young woman who stamped on Jay’s heart in the award-winning channel 4 series, the 28-year-old actress will soon go on tour with Folio Theatre Company, the troupe she created.

Lizzie, who grew up in Trowbridge, will play the lead role of Eliza in the touching comedy drama, written by Royal Court Young Writer Alys Metcalf, which comes to Swindon Arts Centre on May 20.

“I can't wait to come back to Wiltshire.” said Lizzie, who trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London and has previously performed at the Arc in Trowbridge and the Wharf Theatre in Devizes.

“For me, the West Country will always be home. It's a beautiful part of the country.

“Unearthed is set in Somerset and it tells the story of estranged twins Ben and Eliza who are brought back together by quest to complete a list of utterly bizarre tasks set for them in their late father's will.

“It's a magical show about family, responsibility and following your dreams. It's directed by Kim Pearce, who is the resident director for The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time.”

After moving to the capital and being exposed to a slew of new writing, Lizzie was inspired to form her own theatre troupe and bring some of her native south west to the big smoke.

“Living in London over the past few years, I’ve been struck by the abundance of new writing available in London, and the opportunity this affords young creatives there, compared to those living in more rural areas,” she added.

“So last year I founded Folio Theatre Company, promoting new work in the south west by supporting emerging local writers and creating stories set in the region.”

Keen to support worthy causes, Lizzie will use the play as a vehicle to support and promote the Stroke Association and Carers Trust UK.

“I've always said that if I started my own company, I wanted to use it to help support a charity. It's great that this show gives us the chance to support and promote these two fantastic charities, and I'm very proud of our association with them. It's also been really helpful for Alys, the playwright, to talk to young carers about their experiences.

“In Unearthed, the main characters' lives are turned upside down when their father suffers a stroke, forcing them to reconsider their choices in life.

"This is an issue that often affects young carers and is something we wanted to raise awareness for.”

The show, which is produced in association with The Brewhouse Theatre, will start at Swindon Arts at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £12 and are available from available the box office on 01793 524481 or at swindontheatres.co.uk. For more information about the production go to www.foliotheatre.co.uk.
