TALENTED young skaters, bikers and scooter riders had the skills to pay the bills when they competed in the Urban Riders’ Games.

The extreme sports event, which took place at the Hawksworth Trading Estate, on Friday, was organised by ATB Shop Skateware-house.

There was a wide range of categories with thousands of pounds worth of prizes up for grabs. There were also trophies for the best performers.

Diana Kirk, co-owner of ATB, and event organiser, said: “The interest has been amazing. We’ve had people coming from places such as Bristol and Oxford. Everyone was down really early to practice and we have been overwhelmed by the amount of entrants.”

She added: “The atmosphere amongst the staff has been buzzing, it feels like everyone is running on energy drinks.

“We are really impressed by the quality of our supremely talented entrants.”

Prizes included skateboard decks, scooter decks, trainers, clothing and accessories.

The Advertiser was one of the supporters of the Urban Riders’ Games along with many businesses and companies from the town.

Diana said: “We are really pleased with the support we’ve had from our kind sponsors and we’d like to thank them.

“We’ve had Domino’s giving us free pizza which has got everyone really excited.”

ATB is Swindon’s only indoor skatepark and the organisers used the competition to call for improved free outdoor facilities in the town.

Diana said: “We put this event on to tell Swindon that there are some really talented riders out there and we want to have more free outdoor facilities.

“Hopefully people will take notice after hearing about the highly skilled individuals we have.”
