WARMINSTER-based independent payroll company RACS Group picked up the Services to the Community award at this year’s Wiltshire Business Awards.

The company, which provides recruitment agencies with outsourced payroll solutions, was started by managing director Terry Hillier in 2007 from a back bedroom he converted into an office.

After relocating to a barn in Corsley, RACS Group continued to grow and expand, moving to offices above Dorothy Perkins in Warminster’s Market Place before eventually converting the old Wessex Club in Three Horseshoes Walk.

The company moved into its purpose built office complex in 2013, which includes an open-plan design with private offices and meeting rooms - all equipped with cutting edge IT networks and security systems.

The judges for the award, which was sponsored by BBC Wiltshire, said: "The RACS Group are truly inspirational in term of their positive contribution to the local community an the company's unique work culture encompasses a generous corporate social responsibility.

"Being actively involved with Kingdown School and the Academy of Trinity, supporting Doug Small with local football, rugby and cricket club equipment and kits and helping rebrand Active Trowbridge's three vans are just a few of their projects.

"All staff are keen to raise money, or give time and training to make their local community a better place to live and grow up in."

Only recently, RACS Group sponsored a group of Kingdown School pupils on their journey to Nepal to climb Mount Everest, providing the team with branded training kit and much more.

Managing director of RACS Group Terry Hillier said: "The community award is a very special one for our staff and the whole company is committed to 'doing good', which is our saying.

"We have supported a number of sports organisations and charities, including Children's Hospice South West, Dorothy House Hospice and Louie's S.M.I.L.E.S, while we have also done a lot with Kingdown and Academy of Trinity.

"I think the main thing for us is that we are a commercial organisation managed and run by people from Warminster and it's great to give something back to the community."

The 2014 Wiltshire Business Awards, which took place at Center Parcs Longleat, featured six other categories, including Business Person of the Year, Apprenticeship Employer, Customer and Staff Care, Medium Sized Enterprise, Environmental and Small Business of the Year.

Winners in each category gained automatic entry into the night’s most prestigious award – the Overall Excellence Award – which was sponsored by Thrings, a long-time partner of the event.
