A MAN who hit a friend’s uncle with a broken vodka bottle is to face a second trial to see whether he meant to do it.

Earlier this month, a jury failed to reach a verdict on Sean Porter, who was said to have lashed out at the man he claimed was talking dirty to his girlfriend on the phone.

Now, prosecutors have told Swindon Crown Court they would like to have a second trial in front of a new jury.

The 36-year-old had been drinking with Eddie Kiernan at his flat in Whitebeam Court, Pinehurst, before the incident took place last November.

The victim lost a litre of blood after suffering six injuries having been struck with the broken bottle the men had earlier been drinking from.

Porter, of Raleigh Avenue, Walcot, admitted unlawful wounding, but denied the more serious charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Judge Peter Blair QC remanded him in custody and adjourned the case for a trial date to be fixed.
