NEARLY 300 Wanborough homes were without power yesterday after a high-voltage electrical cable fell down.
The village was hit by the power cut at 5.45am yesterday morning, with residents left without electricity for more than six hours.
Engineers from electricity provider Southern Electric worked to resolve the situation with power supply resumed to the whole of the village by around 12.30pm.
Wanborough has more than 1,500 residents.
Church road resident Dave Daltrey, 72, said the power shortage had affected residents who had to leave for work early in the morning.
“We’re early risers here and this morning my daughter was shocked to see it had cut off,” he said.
“The power first shut off at 6am and then came on again at about 7.30am. It then cut off again at about 8am.
“This has happened a couple of times before but only ever in bad weather.”
Dave, who runs D Daltrey Engineering in Church Road, said the power had come back on in his workshop by 10am.
A spokesman for Southern Electric apologised, saying: “We got a call at 5.45am to reports of a high voltage power cable falling down.
"Engineers were deployed shortly afterwards. The power supply was back on within six hours.
"We send our sincere apologies to all those affected.”
