THE annual St George’s Day procession will pass through the town centre at 11am tomorrow.
The parade will begin in Wharf Green, with a knight leading the group, followed by Mayor Teresa Page and schoolchildren dressed as dragons and a host of mock royalty.
During the march, pupils from the participating schools will learn about the patron Saint of England.
InSwindon Bid is overseeing the town’s commemorations and manager Di Powell, said: “It’s only right that Swindon marks St George’s Day in this fashion with pageantry and a procession.
“Children from schools across Swindon will be taking part and will have the opportunity to learn about St George’s history.”
The march is a highlight of a full programme of activities taking place in Swindon.
One of the events is a treasure trail, running until Sunday, which has seen eagled-eyed shoppers get the chance of winning a range of prizes.
As part of the activity, shoppers must identify the stores taking part in the trail. Those participating have St George’s Day imagery in their windows.
Di said: “We’re delighted that we have the support of over 100 town centre retailers, who are joining the occasion by participating in a fantastic St George’s treasure trail.
“It is great family fun with some excellent prizes up for grabs.”
Treasure hunt entry forms and maps are available from Central Library, the Brunel Centre and online at www.swindontowncentre.co.uk
