A NEW season of big-screen classics and contemporary blockbusters will be coming to the outdoor cinema at Old Town Bowl this summer.

Oscar winner Birdman will be headlining this year’s screenings.

The film, starring Michael Keaton, which won four gongs at this year’s Hollywood ceremony, joins a line up including Dirty Dancing, The Usual Suspects, Pulp Fiction and The Theory Of Everything.

Each showing can welcome an audience of up to 300 people, with film fans being able to watch the features from the comfort of deckchairs and bean bags.

Kicking off this year’s programme, organised by company Cult Screens, is 80s classic The Breakfast Club on June 5 with Birdman being shown on June 6. The other titles will be screened over the summer.

Phil Cottle, Cult Screens’ head of ideas, said: “Swindon can expect an outdoor cinema experience like no other.

“We’ve done an incredible mix of films for Swindon this year. We’ll be starting with a 30th anniversary screening of The Breakfast Club, and we’ll also be showing Birdman, which won 2014 Best Picture at the Oscars.

“We’ll also be bringing some timeless classics to Swindon. All of these can be experienced from comfy beanbags or deckchairs, accompanied with popcorn, cocktails and authentic German hotdogs.”

Last year was the first time Cult Screens held events in Swindon and Phil is delighted to return for the sequel.

“The response we had last year was phenomenal. People love cinema and watching a classic film outdoors is really atmospheric - it’s a great alternative way to spend an evening with friends or for a date night,” he said.

“Before launching Cult Screens I knew people would share the passion for iconic cinema, and it’s gone from strength to strength. We put a lot of effort into making sure that the screenings are complete experiences, from the beanbags to the sound system we use, to the quality and selection of food and drinks we have on offer.”

Cult Screens will be holding events across the south this summer with showings taking place nearby in Oxford and Newbury this summer.

To see the full programme and for ticket information visit www.cultscreens.co.uk. Deckchairs are £13.95 per person, and beanbags, £15.95.
