SWINDON joined hundreds of cities in 80 countries around the world to mark World Tai Chi and Qigong Day.

The event, which takes place on the last Saturday in April each year, aims to raise awareness of the skills.

Tai Chi and Qigong are ancient Chinese exercise and breathing systems that aim to promote health and wellbeing using physical posture, breathing techniques and focused intention.

And a Swindon group of Tai Chi exponents, led by town teacher Graham Pritchard, were in Old Town Gardens to mark the occasion.

Graham, who has been teaching the Tai Chi and Qigong since 1996, said the event was a great success.

“It went very well, we had a great turn-out, around 23 of us,” he said. “We do it every year.

“People around the world who practice Tai Chi go to places at 10am to celebrate. It was a beautiful day and we were at the Old Town Gardens, which is a beautiful spot. It was rather lovely.”
