A CCTV image has been released of a man police want to speak to following a sexual assault in an alleyway in the town centre over Easter bank holiday weekend.

An 18-year-old woman was the victim of the assault just metres from Regent Street in the early hours of Monday, 6 April, and has been supported by police since the ordeal.

The attack is thought to have happened at some time between 12.30am and 3.30am.

Investigations into the incident extended long into the next day, with a cordon in place around the alleyway by Edgeware Road for some hours during the Monday morning.

Investigations and forensics were carried out at the scene, and police have now confirmed they are dealing with a sexual assault on the teenager.

Police have issued a CCTV image of a man they believe could have vital information which can help their investigation, and are appealing for him to get in contact immediately.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: "Police are appealing for information after an 18-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Swindon town centre.

"The incident happened between 12.30am and 3.30am on Monday, April 6, in an alleyway off of Edgeware Road.

"A police cordon was erected following the report while investigations were carried out at the scene. This remained in place for several hours during the Monday morning.

"Police believe this man may have vital information to help with their investigation and would urge him to get in contact."
