WILTSHIRE Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious sexual assault in Swindon.

The incident took place between midnight and 1.15am on Sunday 3rd May 2015 in Granville Street Car Park.

An 18-year-old lone woman was sexually assaulted by a male.

The offender is described as male, aged in his 30s, dark skinned with stubble on his face, and black hair.

Detective Sergeant Gareth Kitchener said: “This was a serious attack on a lone female and it has understandably left her extremely distressed.

“A robust police investigation has been launched and we have a dedicated team of officers working on the case.

“I am urging anyone who has information on this incident to contact police immediately. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who was in the area of Swindon town centre between midnight and 1.15am this morning and may have seen or heard anything suspicious that may be connected to the incident.

"We believe this to be an isolated incident, however, we would urge members of the public to be vigilant and mindful of their personal safety."

A 37-year-old man from Swindon has been arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in police custody.
